Lexi Conejo
Actor/singer/dancer
I’m Lexi! I am a Hispanic American actor, singer, dancer, and pilates instructor in training with a BFA in Musical Theatre and a minor in Spanish from Ball State University. I come from the suburbs of Chicago—Wheeling, IL—where I grew up with my mom, dad, younger brother, and Horchata, our chihuahua mix. My dad is from Costa Rica, so every summer, I visit my family in Cartago, near San Jose, and get to admire the landscape and the peace that radiates throughout the country.
I am obsessed with coffee, my current favorite is an iced caramel oatmilk latte, and the seasonal pumpkin spice! I love to cook typical Costa Rican meals, read memoirs by my favorite actors, practice pilates, indulge in the occasional crochet project, and watch Gilmore Girls on loop. I just adopted a cat who is a tortoiseshell/tabby mix named Luna, and I love to admit that I am obsessed with cleaning and organization… it brings me such joy.
Welcome!
I am so glad you’re here.
Who am I as an artist?
My biggest drive for my art is passion. I love theatre and the way it encourages, inspires, loves, and guides people, no matter your age, race, ethnicity, sexuality, or overall identity. Theatrical art is a way of life that nourishes my own soul and forces me to learn from every single theatrical experience I have ever had the privilege to witness or be part of.
Some of my favorite projects include POTUS: Or, Behind Every Dumbass are Seven Women trying to Keep Him Alive and Songs For a New World. In POTUS, I was cast as the press secretary, Jean. The show taught me that, as an actor, I don’t have to be put into a box, and as a person, I love not only watching farcical comedies but also being in them. It sparked my deep interest in comedy and my love for SNL. In contrast, Songs for a New World was a musical experience unlike any other, where, for the first time, I was part of an immersive theatre experience as an actor. I felt a connection to the audience that no other show has given me, teaching me how to authenticate and communicate my deep-rooted passion to others directly through my work.
I only wish that my love and my passion for theatre would activate change and ignite conversation among a widespread audience, encouraging compassion and kindness to be at the forefront of all art. Through my own art, I seek to help instill such values in not only my community but in humanity as a whole.
